CITRUS + ROSEMARY FOOT SCRUB.
After months of wool socks and heavy boot wearing, I think we all deserve an invigorating foot scrub. I’ve bought my fair share of exfoliators over the years, but it turns out that the simple process of making your own scrub can be equally as therapeutic (and easy)! Today I’m using the Citrus Rosemary Foot scrub recipe from the Herbal Academy Blog and Botanical Skincare Recipe book.
Ingredients
1/4 cup pink Himalayan salt, coarse
1 cup sea salt, fine
2 tablespoons lemon juice
4 drops rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil
2 tablespoons grapefruit juice
1/8 cup fractionated coconut oil or almond oil
1 sprig fresh rosemary
1 teaspoon lemon peel zest
2 tablespoons grapefruit peel zest
INSTRUCTIONS
Combine 1/4 cup pink Himalayan salt and 1 cup sea salt in a medium-sized mixing bowl (my Himalayan salt was a bit too course so I first used a mortar and pestle to break it down). While stirring the salts, add in lemon juice and grapefruit juice. In a small bowl, combine coconut oil and rosemary essential oil. Then, add this to the salt mixture and stir until combined thoroughly.
Chop or tear a fresh sprig of rosemary and add to the scrub along with lemon peel zest and grapefruit peel zest. Stir once more to combine.
Excess foot scrub can be stored in an airtight container and used within a week or two.
HOW TO SCRUB
Fill a tub or large basin with warm water and soak your feet for about 10 minutes or whatever feels good. Herbal Academy has a great herbal soak recipe if you want to add some herbs and essential oils to the mix. After soaking your feet, scoop a small amount of foot scrub into your hand. Massage into your feet using small, circular motions. Wrap each foot in a warm, damp hand towel and allow to soak for 5-10 minutes to truly benefit from all of the herbal goodness.
