SUSTAINABLE SWAPS
FEBRUARY, 2023
A morning with Kristi and her sustainable swaps.
SLOW LIVING
Notes on slow, seasonal + intentional living from a Windy Peak in Montana.
WINDY PEAK SUSTAINABLE SWAPS.
Windy Peak Vintage was founded on the idea of sustainability, moving away from fast fashion by giving vintage clothing a second life. As we grow, we are working to share more earth friendly goods, tips and practices with you and continue support businesses with practices that support the long term health of our planet and society. With that being said, here is a little peak into Kristi’s morning routine, using some favorite staples from the shop…some fun and easy, sustainable swaps that you too can give a try this new year.
For the new year, Kristi made the switch to the extremely pretty, effective and earth friendly Flora Flora shampoo and conditioner bars. These bars are free of plastic packing and available in a variety of dreamy, botanical scents, like Herb Garden and Citrus Grove. Flora Flora is a small, women owned and operated company serving to be gentle on your hair, body and the planet.
Next on the get-ready list is our favorite Fat and The Moon’s lip paints, perfect for a pretty pop of color for your cheeks, lips and eyes. They are packaged in long lasting, reusable / recyclable tins, and made with cosmetic grade mineral pigments, free of petroleum and yucky toxins. Kristi loves the natural shades like ‘clay idol’ (a deep orange with a rich pigment) because it lasts all day in the ever-changing Montana weather.
When feeling fancy, Death Valley Nails is Kristi and her kids preferred polish. They make very thing in small batches, with nontoxic, cruelty free, earth based materials. ‘Honey on Rye’, a light, rusty orange, is her go-to color.
Coffee is essential for Kristi’s morning routine and the slow pour of the Chemex is her favorite way to make a batch (let’s not forget to clean it after with one of our natural, beechwood bottle brushes). Kristi recently made the swap paper filters to waste-free Ebb coffee filters that are thoughtfully and durably made to use over and over again.
A locally made mug is the preferred way to drink her morning cup, but if in a hurry, the Huskee swap cup keeps coffee warm on the go and saves her a disposable cup later in the day for the mid-day local coffee shop pick-me-up.
All of Kristi’s food waste goes to the goats, but coffee grounds are put in her counter top compost bin to be turned into garden soil in the Springtime!
Happy Sustainable Swapping!
