AUTUMN TEA BLEND
After a busy, busy Summer and the leaves start to turn and we wake to frost blanketing the fields, we feel ourselves welcoming a slower pace. Here’s a tea to sip in celebration and reflection of our garden, our labor, and the joy, grief, love and loss the Summer season brought us.
Hibiscus is the main herb in our Autumn tea. The flower is rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants and makes for a lovely red color when steeped. Rose hips are also mixed in, in honor of their Fall harvest. We top it off with ginger, cinnamon, cloves and lemon peel give the tea a warm feeling of Fall.
Ingredients
2 part dried hibiscus
1 part dried rose hip 1 part dried cloves
½ part chopped ginger root (this can be fresh or dried)
½ part dried lemon peel (squeeze some lemon juice instead if you don’t have or like dried lemon peel) ½ part dried licorice root (more or less for sweetness) 1 stick of cinnamon (more or less to taste)
how to prepare
Determine how much tea blend you would like to make, and then assign your “parts” accordingly.
Combine all of the herbs (except fresh ginger, if using) and mix well. If you're making a bulk batch, transfer the blend to a storage container, label, and store in a cool, dark location.
To brew a batch, add about 5 tablespoons of the tea blend to a tea pot, jar or whatever you like to use to steep tea, add hot water and let sit for 3-5 minutes or so.
Strain the plant material from the liquid, sweeten if desired, and enjoy!
